Saturday Dance Night

Meme doesn’t do much dancing anymore. In another post I mentioned that a friend and I worked in a little music store. Can you see all the 45 rpm records on the shelf? We played all the latest tunes and practiced the latest dance steps. I don’t know what we were doing here, but I would bet Elvis was singing. I am the one who has to watch her feet before she trips over them.
Sydney Fong gets the first dance, but you can cut in anytime.
Missed the Saturday dance
Heard they crowded the floor
Couldn’t bear it without you
Don’t get around much anymore
Thought I’d visit the club
Got as far as the door
They’d have asked me about you
Don’t get around much anymore
Darling I guess my mind’s more at ease
But nevertheless why stir up memories
Been invited on dates
Might have gone but what for
Awfully different without you
Don’t get around much anymore

Loved the socks! I had them too! and stacks of 45 records! We would go to sock hops and dance with other girls until the boys warmed up!
And it seemed the guys who were the best dancers……….were the creepy ones.
I didn’t mean to say that.
All the nerdy types are now………..soooo successful.
Yes, rich! Why didn’t they tell us that!
I started with the 45s and 78 speed. I remember going to a music shop in Hollywood, a famous one that I can’t remember the name of, and going into a little booth to put on head phoned and listen to the records before buying. You could see others in their booths bobbing all over the place. It was so much fun. Thanks, Meme.
Yes, that is the way I remember it.
There were no malls. You either met in the Music Shop or in the booths in the Drug Store.
When I was a teenager we used to hang around at the local record shop. They would take out the record and play it for you before you committed to buy it.
I also remember my mother giving me all her old 45′s from the fifties. She kept all of them in a little book like a photo album with sleeves for pages. Some of the little discs in the center of the records were metal, not plastic. I tried to take one out once and record split in two. My sister and I hid the pieces because we were afraid she’d get mad.
Yes, it was fun working there. All the kids would come in to gab etc. We had these little partitioned ‘listening rooms’. You could go in there and listen……or whatever else you wanted to do in there. lol
I wonder what song you broke. lol We have all hidden something some time or other.
I remember one of my kids hid something (who remembers what it was) and I knew they hid it and I felt so sorry for them. So I never said anything. I didn’t remember that until you mentioned it.
AnElephantCant solve Meme’s problem
But there is an answer he thinks this is it
If she doesn’t get around
If she is blog-blound
Why doesn’t she drop by for a visit?
Meme has become a Lady
Always waits to be invited first
Now that she’s been asked
Her heart is about to burst
Gosh, the memories! My parents still have piles of records stored away!
Those old 45′s may be worth something. Hang on to that stuff!!!
Your cheatin’ heart,
Will make you weep,
You’ll cry and cry,
And try to sleep,
But sleep won’t come,
The whole night through,
Your cheatin heart, will tell on you…
When tears come down,
Like falling rain,
You’ll toss around,
And call my name,
You’ll walk the floor,
The way I do,
Your cheatin’ heart, will tell on you…
I know the lyrics is not perfect, but the rhythm is right for a dance.
kc
That’s a great song. Remember it well. Thanks for including it in a comment!
You wouldn’t cheat on me would you, kc? lol
If there is something call last thing in life, cheating would not be included.
KC
recalling of the good old time I can tell…I can’t imagine it though…
The memories are always better than the times. lol
I can remember some pretty horrible times during the teen years………
I think we sit around and try to convince ourselves we had a good time.
you’re so right about memories are always better than the times itself…
my teen years was wonderful until when I was 22 it started to give me hard times..especially after my father passed away…I guess, now that I have to act like an adult, the everyday joys are more like a burden to me..but I’m adjusting well now..
I was writing a comment to you and your comment came in. lol
It was a nice feeling.
yes that’s right..it’s like we’re talking to each other…
it is a very nice feeling…thank you Meme
What a great picture!! Remember those little plastic things that went into the center of a 45? I’ll bet today you could pass that around and no one (under a certain age) would have any idea what it is.
Yes, I remember those little plastic things and not ashamed to admit it. lol
I think it was like an adapter thingy you would put on the spindle of a 78 player.
I wonder if anybody still has one to pass around.
I do!
“Put another nickel in, in the nickelodeon…”, and you can hear it again.
And if you put a quarter in, you get to hear it 6 more times.
Thanks for your comment.
