Don’t Worry, Be Happy is a song that came out in 1988 by Bobby McFerrin. It has positive lyrics and is a very catchy tune. I was teaching at the time and of course teachers have in class evaluations. Being observed by the principal can be very stressful. Our school had a fun-loving vice principal and he would play Don’t Worry, Be Happy over the loud-speaker before and after school hours. I don’t know if it helped to put us at our ease, but I do remember I did fine on my evaluation.
I also remember some teachers remarking that they were praying that they did well. I did not say anything but I thought it would be better to be preparing a good lesson instead of praying. And I still think preparing yourself for life is better than asking help from an imaginary super being. But if you still feel like praying, here is a little song for you.
